Their Story...

Joel:

In 1999, my mom learned about Weigh Down through a billboard advertisement at our local grocery store. She took a class, and it changed her life. She found out about Remnant Fellowship Church, then joined the church in 2003. Growing up, we often got to travel to the church from Ohio, and I remember as a kid being so excited to travel to Tennessee for weddings, youth events, and summer day camps. Fast-forward to 2015, when my family was able to permanently move to Tennessee. Surrounded by so many church friends, I was able to consistently focus on God, pray over everything, and always be humble, and it was so blessed! I gained many new friends and got to meet so many new people. I had transferred to the local public school district, but it was difficult as a teenager to step into a new curriculum. In 2016, I had the opportunity to be homeschooled, and I loved it. I was able to start attending Homeschool Co-Op at Remnant Fellowship, and it was there when I first noticed Hannah Dunn. I knew Hannah was always surrounded by Godly friends and was an incredible example of putting God first and trying to do what was right. In 2018, we started to get to know each other more, and that would be the start of something very special.

I cannot wait to share my life with Hannah and learn how we can become more Christ-like in everything we do. I am beyond excited to marry a woman who loves God first and foremost, and I am excited to see how God uses our relationship to continue to lift up this church and shine in the community through our work and personal lives. - Joel

As Hannah and I grew closer as friends and began a dating relationship, I was able to truly see how amazing she is. Not only is she a very hard worker and very loyal in everything she does, but she truly has a child-like heart. She is always asking questions and trying to better herself in anything she does, whether that is school, work, friends, or our relationship; she is always wanting to improve every day. It convicts me how much of a personal relationship she has with everyone around her, and especially with God.

I cannot wait to share my life with Hannah and learn how we can become more Christ-like in everything we do. I am beyond excited to marry a woman who loves God first and foremost, and I am excited to see how God uses our relationship to continue to lift up this church and shine in the community through our work and personal lives. I am truly thankful for Remnant Fellowship and for the teachings we hear on how to put God first on a daily basis.

Hannah:

I cannot begin this testimony without first giving credit to my parents, my amazing church, Remnant Fellowship, Gwen Lara, and Elizabeth Hannah for their countless hours of wisdom and love towards me and my family! I feel so blessed and undeserving to have grown up with such a loving community of people around me and will never be able to fully express the gratitude I feel for the mercy and love God has shown me.

For a little backstory, my mother learned about Weigh Down in 1997 while in Germany with my dad, and her life was forever changed. She started putting the common-sense Weigh Down tips of hunger and fullness into practice and quickly lost 35 pounds. Not only did she lose weight, but she also started to grow a better relationship with God, which led to beautiful changes in other areas of her life. After watching my mom make these changes, my dad started to put the Weigh Down teachings into practice and lost 70 pounds himself and found his relationship with God growing as well.  They both had finally found someone—Gwen Lara—who not only spoke Biblical Truth but lived it out daily and showed others how to do the same. My parents then began attending Remnant Fellowship Church just a few years later, after they had returned back to their home state of Tennessee.

I feel deeply humbled and grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to marry Joel. God has blessed me abundantly by providing the best match for myself, and I know Joel and I are so excited to serve God and His people together! - Hannah

Without Gwen’s prayers for my parents, and my parent’s faith, devotion, and trust in God, I know that my brothers and I would not be here. Growing up, my parents made sure that we all prioritized our relationship with God above all else in this world. Their passion for God and His church was evident, and they never forgot to take the time to explain to us how the whole-hearted teaching at Remnant completely changed their lives. Before Remnant, they had searched all around the world for someone to tell them God’s Truth, because they knew there was more to life than staying in sin. Their passion for our church and what is taught here is something I strive to have more of every day, and their active and consistent participation is such an inspiration to me.

Growing up, I know I was definitely not the easiest to work with for my parents, and without the encouragement and love from Gwen Lara, Elizabeth Hannah, my family and friends, and my best friend, Grace Hannah, I would not be where I am today, nor do I take any credit for it. This place truly teaches you how to look inward, change your heart and your focus on God, and become a better person for God and others every day, and I would not want to be anywhere else!

The Fischer family has always been very close to ours, and I had always known who Joel was, but I did not see him often because of his travelling back and forth from his hometown in Ohio. Several years ago, Joel came up to me after church one evening and said something quick and funny, and I took special notice of him. Ever since that interaction, my feelings for him have grown stronger with every moment together. One of the first things I noticed about Joel was that he was always positive, never afraid to talk to someone or try something new. He was adventurous, and he was extremely generous. I sometimes lacked positivity myself, so I found that optimism very admirable.

Joel is amazing. He has never been afraid to stand up for what he believes in and is always loving to those around him. He is the hardest worker I know, not only in his career, but in his relationships and everyday activities as well. He has given everything in life his all, and he motivates me to do the same. His parents, Don and Donna Fischer, have such a special place in my heart, as they have practically been a second set of parents to me for many years. I have so much respect for them and their amazing, fun family, and I am unbelievably honored that I get a chance to be a part of it. I feel deeply humbled and grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to marry Joel. God has blessed me abundantly by providing the best match for myself, and I know Joel and I are so excited to serve God and His people together!
