Their Story...

Ezekiel:

In 2002, my parents joined Remnant Fellowship while living in Oklahoma. Coincidentally, they often drove down to Texas to fellowship with Steve and Jill Smith, Savannah's parents, so our families have been friends from very early on. Not long after, my parents moved to Tennessee, and a couple of months later, I was born. I couldn't be more grateful for this decision because I wouldn't have the life I have today if it weren't for them and all they have done for me and my siblings. Here at Remnant Fellowship, I learned how to live out the two most important commandments given by Jesus Christ himself. Mark 12:29-31 states, "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." This church membership includes countless examples of what it looks like to live out these words of Christ, and I am beyond honored to be a member of this amazing church.

As I've grown closer to Savannah over the years, I haven't seen anything less than the most selfless, loving heart, always taking care of others' needs before her own. I'm beyond humbled to be allowed this opportunity to marry her and grow stronger together than we are apart. - Zeke

As I mentioned, my parents have been close to the Smith family for a long time, and although I have known them my whole life, it was Savannah who initially caught my attention and ultimately captivated my heart. Almost every time I saw her, she was doing one of three things: caring for a child at the church building during or after a service, helping set up food and desserts for events, such as weddings or festivals, or singing during worship with her eyes closed and head up. I found the last of those three to be most attractive to me - her love and adoration for God. As I've grown closer to Savannah over the years, I haven't seen anything less than the most selfless, loving heart, always taking care of others' needs before her own. She is also very cute, so that is a plus! I'm beyond humbled to be allowed this opportunity to marry her and grow stronger together than we are apart. Savannah is the biggest blessing I have ever received, and I wouldn't trade her love for anything the world has to offer, because she is priceless to me.

I am forever grateful to the leadership of this church for all they have done for me, for Savannah, and for our families. Gwen Shamblin Lara taught me, as well as countless others, how to have a true Godly purpose in life. She opened my eyes to the fact that I can pray to the God of the Universe, and that God could come in and answer my prayers. Without Gwen’s teachings guiding me to God’s Word and a personal relationship with Him, I would be lost, and the idea of marriage would be nothing more than just a thought. Secondly, I want to thank Elizabeth Hannah for taking up the torch and running with it. Her example of loyalty is something I find very admirable, and she is someone I strive to imitate as she imitates Christ. I look forward to many more years in this church learning from Elizabeth and our amazing church leadership. Lastly, I would like to thank my parents for showing what a steadfast and upright marriage should look like. In my whole life, I have never – not even once – heard them raise their voice at one another, and they have always treated us with kindness, gentleness and love. I pray to treat Savannah in our marriage the way my father treats my mother, with respect and appreciation and always bringing laughter and love. I love Savannah dearly, and I can't wait to start forever with her here at our church, Remnant Fellowship.

Savannah:

I want to start by thanking my amazing parents, Steve and Jill Smith, along with Gwen Shamblin Lara and Elizabeth Hannah for helping me get to this point in my life. I know if it weren’t for them, I would not have the relationship with God that I have today.

My parents joined Remnant Fellowship before I was born, so I have had the honor to be raised in this amazing church. My parents give credit to God and the Biblical teachings of this church for completely changing their lives. They have been such amazing and selfless parents and have taught me so much, including how to seek God in everything. I cannot thank them enough for following the Spirit of God and moving our family to be closer to all the church here in Brentwood, Tennessee, when I was just 5 months old. I feel very blessed and undeserving to be surrounded by my family and amazing friends my entire life, all whom have truly helped me along the way and always pointed me back to God.

Zeke has been such a blessing in my life, and I am so excited to marry him! He is everything I could have dreamed of and more! God really does know the desires of your heart and gives you more than you could even imagine when you seek a relationship with Him first. I can’t wait to see what God does in our lives as we serve His Kingdom together!- Savannah

Despite being raised in the church, as I reached adulthood, I was faced with spiritual testing that, although difficult at the time, led me to establish my own personal relationship with God. I cried out to Him and began to dig into His Word and make changes in my heart. I remember so specifically during Passover 2021, Gwen delivered a talk on Sunday morning. It was so powerful, and something stuck with me—she was talking about the life of a butterfly and showed a monarch butterfly, which was a personal sign to me from God. The symbolism was so powerful and so personal. Gwen talked about how being born again in Christ is about a whole new life and how God could take us as we are, and we can change, much like the metamorphosis of a butterfly. That day, I remember really feeling a change of heart and wanting to be done with my old testing and temptations so I could live a whole new life. Then just a few months later, Zeke came into my life. God has such perfect timing! Zeke and I have always known each other, as we both have grown up being members of Remnant, and in fact, our parents have known each other from back when my family lived in Texas and his family lived in Oklahoma! We have always been around one other and have been in similar friend groups, but it wasn’t until May 2021 that I found out Zeke had a personal interest in me. We started hanging out more together, which then led to dating.

It has been so fun getting to grow and learn in this life we get to live together! Something everyone needs to know about Zeke is that he can talk to anyone and can make everyone laugh! You always feel better after being around Zeke! That is evident in how he lives every day, and that is what attracts me to him the most. Through every good time and every challenging time, Zeke is the most encouraging person, always making sure we are seeking God’s will and what will be most pleasing to Him. There is so much more I could say but it would take a book!
