Evan Wheeler:
My family started attending Remnant Fellowship the same year I was born, which means I’ve had the awesome blessing of growing up learning from all the amazing sermons from Gwen Lara and seeing so many people actually putting God’s Words into practice and being blessed for it.
However, even though I was around the Bible and this church teaching since I was born, it wasn’t until my early teenage years that I really started to see how much I needed to put into practice what I was being taught...and not just passively listen, but do it. Once I started actively seeking God’s Will over my own, I was able to really learn what it meant to get answered prayers and have a real, personal relationship with God. Through that process, God allowed me to lay down anger and self-focus, lose excess weight, and turn away from other strongholds in my life.
I have never had a bigger faith builder, a bigger answered prayer, or a bigger blessing then meeting and falling in love with Sarah. Sarah has always been a source of encouragement for me as I watch her be so thoughtful, considerate, and prayerful in every situation. - Evan
God allowed there to be many blessings in my life as I was following His lead, and the biggest blessing He allowed was for me to meet Sarah Van Zante at Remnant Fellowship in 2019. I had a deep desire for a relationship at that time, and I brought that desire to God and prayed that He would allow that in His timing. Now I can truly say, I have never had a bigger faith builder, a bigger answered prayer, or a bigger blessing then meeting and falling in love with Sarah.
From the day I met Sarah, she was the easiest and most fun person for me to talk to, and whether it was to me or her friends or family, I could always tell she was really listening and genuinely interested in what anyone had to say because she had so much love in her heart. Sarah has always been a source of encouragement for me as I watch her be so thoughtful, considerate, and prayerful in every situation. I have nothing but the deepest love and admiration for her.
I couldn’t have asked for a bigger answered prayer than God putting Sarah in my life, which would have never happened if it weren’t for this amazing church. I am so thankful for the words Gwen Lara poured out that helped me grow closer to God as I put them into practice—words that now Elizabeth Hannah is continuing to pour out. I can’t wait to grow even closer to Sarah and to strengthen our relationship as we continue to seek out and put God’s Kingdom first.
Sarah Van Zante:
For as long as I can remember, my mom has taken Weigh Down classes and had the lessons playing in the kitchen while she was making meals. I still have memories of enjoying watching those videos with her and dancing to God in my room and talking to Him just like Gwen Lara did!! .
We joined Remnant Fellowship in 2016 while my family was still living in Japan. Not long after that, we moved from Japan to Wisconsin and were able to start visiting Tennessee for church festivals and summer camp, and I was blown away by the love and fellowship that I was shown!!! .
In my early teens, I had been anxious, overweight, and sad...but once we got connected to the church—even though we lived across the country—the friends and fellowship I had at Remnant helped me so much. I cannot thank God enough for that! I can’t imagine spending the last few years not learning how to have a relationship with God and how to get out of self-focus!! I have so much joy when I wake up in the morning and so much love for God. He has given back until my cup overflows!! .
The most striking thing about Evan was his humility. He never talks about himself, and he holds everyone in a high regard! He is easily convicted and puts God and others far above himself. Evan has the biggest heart and the best sense of humor, and I haven’t stopped laughing since we first met!- Sarah
As I got older, I longed for a deeper relationship with a best friend and companion just like my sister, Brianne, had found in her husband, Matthew Fischer...so I prayed for one! And in 2019, I had the chance to meet Evan Wheeler at a friend’s wedding, and Evan’s gentle, humble, and kind spirit took my breath away! We started dating that summer and even flew back and forth to see each other for over a year and a half before I was able to move to Tennessee in May of 2021. Besides his good looks and amazing sense of humor, the most striking thing about Evan to me was his humility. There is not one hint of pride in Evan! He never talks about himself, and he holds everyone in a high regard! He is easily convicted and puts God and others far above himself. Evan has the biggest heart and is so gentle with his little siblings and nephew! He has the best sense of humor, and I haven’t stopped laughing since we first met! I am honored that I get to have him as a friend, let alone become his wife!! .
Evan proposed to me last December, and I had the highest honor of accepting!! Because of this church and the godly marriages we see as examples before us, I have no fear of taking this step!! I am so excited to marry Evan and together serve God’s Kingdom and glorify Him!! .
