Their Story...

Jonah:

Words cannot describe how grateful I am to God Almighty for giving my family and me so many blessings since moving to Tennessee. I know none of this would have been possible if it weren’t for my loving parents, this church, and all of church leadership.

It started for us in 2011 when my mother decided to really dive in to Weigh Down. She started to put the Weigh Down messages into practice resulting in significant heart change and love for God. My father started to notice this change in my mother also, especially after she made her first visit to Tennessee in 2012 to attend Desert Oasis, Weigh Down’s annual convention. Shortly after my mother’s visit, our family joined Remnant Fellowship, officially becoming members of the church in later 2012.

I have truly fallen in love with Carlie’s heart and her love for God! Seeing her willingness to change and to do the right thing moves me and convicts me every day—always has and always will. She never fails to make sure those around her feel loved. I am so grateful for what God has done and continues to do in our lives, and I pray we never take it for granted! - Jonah

My first time visiting Tennessee to attend church in person, I remember seeing so many kids my age. I knew there was something special about this place when a group of kids came to introduce themselves to me on the basketball court, which at the time was unheard of to me! There was so much friendliness, so much love, and so much joy that I knew this was something I wanted.

In 2013, God opened the door for our family to move to Tennessee and we have never looked back. I can remember spending most of my youth being at the church hanging out with friends, playing basketball, or working on music. We were always doing something at the church, and it was so much fun. God blessed me with so many close relationships and allowed my friends and me to learn so much about Him and how to fall in love with Him together!

Fast forward to 2019, when God brought Carlie to my attention. I was attending a small wedding at another church member’s house, and I remember I had just grabbed a drink and went to sit down by myself for a second. Then suddenly I noticed Carlie walking over to where I was. I had known Carlie for a few years, and we had been friends, but we were never really close. But for some reason, this time there was something different about her. She sat down, we spent the rest of that evening talking together, and the rest is history!

That night, God allowed us to start building a close friendship. We were able to get to know each other for a long time before we officially started dating in 2021. In those couple of years when I was getting to know Carlie, God allowed me to go thru some heavy spiritual testing, and Elizabeth Hannah was so helpful to me in navigating those tests. Her encouragement got me back on track, fully focused on God! I am forever grateful to her and all she has done for our church!

In the years of getting to know Carlie and then dating her, I have truly fallen in love with her heart and her love for God! Seeing her willingness to change and to do the right thing moves me and convicts me every day—always has and always will. She never fails to make sure those around her feel loved and that their needs are taken care of. She has been such a joy and an honor to know, and I feel so undeserving I will get to call Carlie my wife!

I am so grateful for what God has done and continues to do in our lives, and I pray we never take it for granted! Thank you so much to our dear friends and family who have been there since day one, loving us and guiding us thru our journey! We love you more than words! And a big thank you to our church, to Elizabeth Hannah and to all of church leadership! We are forever grateful!!!

Carlie:

I can’t begin this testimony without giving all the credit to God first, then to my parents, the church, and all of our church leaders, especially Gwen Shamblin Lara and Elizabeth Hannah. If it weren’t for this church and my parents, I would not be where I am today, and I am so grateful.

In 2002, my mom learned about Remnant Fellowship Church from our dear family friend, Laura Rozeveld. My mom started to take some church classes with her in Michigan. Through doing the classes, my mom started to lose weight, then started changing in so many other ways. She began to develop a deep relationship with God as she put all the principles that Gwen spoke about into practice. My dad started to see all the changes in her life, and he began taking the classes, too. With all the wonderful changes in our family from the teachings of Remnant, we joined the church when I was very young.

Getting to know Jonah has been nothing but an honor and so fun! Jonah has always wanted to do the right thing before God and has never been afraid to support this church and what he believes in, and I admire that a great deal. God has blessed our lives so much, and I am so excited to see what He has in store for us in the future! - Carlie

Being able to be raised in this church since I was a toddler has been the biggest privilege, and there is no place I would rather be. In 2007, my dad made the decision to move our family down to Tennessee to be closer to the church so we could attend and fellowship with everyone in person.

Jonah Strong and I had always been friends, but we never really talked one-on-one or hung out together. In 2019, my family attended a small outdoor wedding for some our friends, and Jonah happened to be there also. Most of the night, I didn’t really talk to him until I saw him sitting with a friend and decided to go over there, never imagining where it would lead! We ended up hanging out in the same group the whole evening, and after that night, we started texting and growing our friendship. From that point, I started to fall in love with him!

Getting to know Jonah for the past four years has been nothing but an honor and so fun! He has taught me so much throughout our relationship. Jonah has always wanted to do the right thing before God and has never been afraid to support this church and what he believes in, and I admire that a great deal.

I feel so undeserving to get to marry Jonah and spend our lives together! God has blessed our lives so much, and I am so excited to see what He has in store for us in the future! My love grows for Jonah every day, and I am so grateful to God for bringing us together.
