Their Story...

Spencer Cuthbert:

In August of 2019, I was very lost and lonely, living in West Virginia with no friends in my area. I had a friend from Canada who had recently moved to Tennessee, so I travelled down to Nashville to visit him. He was a member of Remnant Fellowship Church, and he invited me to attend the Church with him. After my very first visit to Remnant Fellowship and listening to the sermon that day, my eyes were wide open. I felt God's true Spirit for the first time, and it felt like Gwen Lara was speaking directly to me. I could feel the love for God and true joy and peace in everyone I met. After that service, I immediately started asking questions about everything I had just heard, and a week later started my first class, WeighDown Basics. Through that program and the teachings at the church, I ended up losing almost 90 pounds, as well as improving in so many other areas of my life.

God kept allowing more opportunities to keep travelling to Tennessee and attending Remnant in person, giving me the opportunity to fellowship, hear more Truth, and experience what it really meant to live out what we are taught here in this wonderful place. I was able to serve in various ministries of the Church while I was in town, which allowed me to keep focusing off of myself and onto helping others, which allowed for my love for God to keep growing. I was starting to pray all the time—from the time I woke up to the time I closed my eyes. I learned through the Remnant services and the WeighDown classes and resources how to seek God's Spirit and Will in everything I do, and that continued to reflect at my job and all aspects of my life, bringing more love, peace, and joy than I could ever have imagined.

Asya has been the biggest blessing in my life. She is gentle, calm, and loving. Her presence brings so much peace. Asya always encourages me to seek God and seek out what He would want at that moment, pointing my focus back up to Him through Christ. The joy we have together praying and seeking God's Will has been overflowing! I am so excited to discover God's plan for us as we continue to put Him first in our marriage!- Spencer

Of course, there has been spiritual testing along this journey, but seeking Godly advice and counsel from Church Leadership and the true Christian examples around me brought so much peace. I knew the advice was coming from those living out a love for God, seeking His Spirit and His Will, just as Christ did. Passing the spiritual tests always brought fruit into my life—every opportunity to make God look good was so fun! I can never outgive what God has done for me and the dark hole He saved me from. I am forever grateful for Remnant Fellowship and each and every Leader and Saint who has helped me rebuild my faith and love for God and His people.

In addition to all the changes in my heart that He brought about through Remnant Fellowship Church, I cannot believe that God allowed me to meet Asya McNeal. Asya has been the biggest blessing in my life. She is gentle, calm, and loving. Her presence brings so much peace. Asya always encourages me to seek God and seek out what He would want at that moment, pointing my focus back up to Him through Christ. I am so thankful for all the trips to Tennessee that God allowed so that Asya and I could grow closer and seek God first with our relationship. Our time apart was also blessed, as it allowed us quiet time on the phone to share and read about God together, again strengthening our focus on Him as a couple. I am in the process of moving to Tennessee now, and we are still having so much fun growing closer to God through this relationship. Our love for God and for each other continues to grow, and the joy we have together praying and seeking God's Will has been overflowing! I am so excited to discover God's plan for us as we continue to put Him first in our marriage!

Asya McNeal:

I praise God for this opportunity to share the changes in my life and all the wonderful blessings that have come as a result of finding this amazing relationship with God, through the incredible teachings of Gwen Lara at Remnant Fellowship Church. I was introduced to Weigh Down and Remnant Fellowship through my sweet mom, Fanita McNeal. As my mom put into practice the Weigh Down principles, I witnessed her not only losing weight, but also becoming more loving and more committed to God. It was beautiful to watch these changes unfolding in her life, and I wanted that same joy and love in my life as well.

At the time that she began webcasting church services, I was in college struggling to figure out what path to choose for my studies, for my career, and for my life in general. I was so stressed, anxious, and worried about making the right decisions that I ended up taking a semester off, and I moved back home with my parents to figure out what was going to be next for me. What happened then proved to me that I finally made the right decision, the only decision that truly mattered: I discovered a real relationship with God! I began webcasting Church with my mom and taking Weigh Down classes, and my heart and eyes were open to everything that I had been looking for. I had been to several churches before, but it was here at Remnant Fellowship where I witnessed young adults my age, so genuinely in love with God, happy, and kindhearted, with successful jobs, beautiful friendships, and marriages. They were everything I wanted to be but never knew how to be...and it all was simply a result of them learning how to love God with ALL of their heart, soul, mind, and strength. In contrast, my life up until then had been all about school, all about what career I would have, all about what other people thought of me, and I was missing the “ALL for God.” However, I knew I had found it here at Remnant Fellowship, and after a few times of webcasting and visiting, I joined the Church in May of 2016. Then in 2017, God provided an opportunity for my family to move from Florida to Tennessee to be closer to the Church and the Saints locally, and we never looked back. Our lives have been forever changed for the better because of what we’ve been taught at this Church and the Godly examples we get to watch and imitate who live this out daily. We are so grateful!

Spencer is an incredible God-fearing man who is steadfast, servant-hearted, kind, funny, and so generous. He is always looking for the needs of others and is dedicated to keeping God at the center of our relationship, which makes me love him and love God more and more each day. - Asya

Since moving here and building our relationship with God, the blessings have been beyond anything we could have imagined and definitely more than what we deserve. One of the biggest blessings for me has been the honor and complete JOY of getting engaged to Spencer Cuthbert! For a while, I wasn’t interested in dating anyone, and I was becoming comfortable with the idea of being single all of my life. But as time passed, I went through a period of personal refinement and immediately began to change some behaviors that were still hindering my relationship with God. When I began making those changes, I felt my heart soften, and I began to find myself thinking about love and dating, which was completely opposite of how I previously felt. Within days of putting into practice total obedience to God in the example of Christ, He allowed me to meet Spencer on St. Valentine’s Day, the day known for being all about love! From that first day we met, it has been nothing but pure joy and love for God for all that He has done! Spencer is an incredible God-fearing man who is steadfast, servant-hearted, kind, funny, and so generous. He is always looking for the needs of others and is dedicated to keeping God at the center of our relationship, which makes me love him and love God more and more each day.

Getting engaged to Spencer was such a blessing, and it’s a day that I will never forget! Right before Spencer proposed, we were walking through Arrington Vineyards, and a ladybug landed on his back. I was so excited because a ladybug has been one of the personal things that God shows me to get my attention! Right after that happened, Spencer proposed, and I realized then that the ladybug had been a sweet kiss from God, just another beautiful confirmation that Spencer was selected just for me. Spencer is my biggest blessing, and I’m so grateful for him and this life we get live together. As we commit our focus and love for God first, I have so much hope for a peaceful, happy marriage!
