Their Story...

Jonathan:

I must start this testimony by giving credit to the One True Almighty God, His Son Jesus Christ, and this incredible Church and Truth. I would not be here today without the years and countless hours of love, guidance, wisdom, and profound teachings of Remnant Fellowship, Gwen Lara, and now Elizabeth Hannah Kaufmann. I also must thank my church family, friends, with the biggest thank you going to my parents for raising me in this church to love God first, others second, and follow Christ’s example in everything. Without this place, I would not know how to find a true personal relationship with God. I am so unbelievably grateful to have grown up surrounded by Christ like examples and love, and I pray that I can give back to God even a fraction of what He has undeservingly given to me.

Abby perfectly balances me out…and she always points me up to God in all situations. She is the most beautiful inside and out and is so incredibly caring and supportive. She is incredibly motivated for God and righteousness, and she always remembers to look for God’s lead and Spirit in all situations. - Jonathan

Before I was born, my parents lived in the UK, and both had a deep desire to find a community of righteous people living out a true relationship with God every day. It’s ironic that after searching for multiple years in different cities and countries, they would find what they were looking for in their home state of Tennessee. In 2000, my parents joined Remnant Fellowship, and every day since, my parents have been passionate supporters of this truth of loving God above all things and loving others second through Christ-like living.

If you know me, you probably know that I am one of three triplet siblings. Even after the doctor told my parents they had less than a 1% chance of having children, my siblings and I were born in 2003 as a result of my parents’ faith and devotion to God, prayerfully walking out the path they felt God had led them, and the prayers of Gwen and our church community. My parents continued to show gratitude to God for this blessing by raising each of us to love God wholeheartedly, to make the most of His opportunities, and to put faith into action in all things. It was through the teachings of this Church that my parents raised my siblings and me to truly learn what a personal relationship with God means, and I am so grateful that we have been so close growing up and continue to grow closer as the years go by.

Although I always “knew” Abby through mutual friends (actually my sister Hannah and Abby were best friends when they were 5), we only reconnected more recently in the Spring of 2024. Abby’s faith, kindness, gentleness, and strength were qualities that were immediately visible, and I was drawn to her love and care for others. Once we started dating, it was clear that Abby was so incredibly kind, loving, humble, sweet, and fun—and I only grew more in love with her as we continued dating. Through our dating, we had the opportunity to serve the Church together, pray together, share with each other what God was showing us, and walk through situations together with the unified goal of keeping God at the center of everything. Through this and the Biblical teaching we learned from this church, we grew so much closer to each other as we were also growing closer to God.

For years, I prayed to God to find a righteous wife, and God answered that prayer and infinitely more with an angel that is Abby. She perfectly balances me out, which my parents would say is a HUGE blessing, and she always points me up to God in all situations. She is the most beautiful inside and out and is so incredibly caring and supportive. She is incredibly motivated for God and righteousness, and she always remembers to look for God’s lead and Spirit in all situations. She is calm and faithful in all things, and any effort to be more like her has pushed me closer to God.

Growing up as a child and as a young adult, I was always excited to think about my life in a short-term view, putting a lot of thought into what I wanted to do each day or week, but never really thinking about my life long-term. Now that Abby is part of my life, I can’t wait to grow old with her, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what adventures God has in store for us along the way.

I truly didn’t know how much I could love someone until Abby. She is so unbelievably amazing and lovely, and I can’t believe that I have the undeserved blessing of getting to marry her. Abby is ABSOLUTELY my biggest blessing, and I pray every day that we can only continue to glorify God together, support this amazing truth, and grow stronger every day in God’s love.

Abigail:

I am beyond humbled and honored to be here today and to have a testimony to share. Every blessing in my life comes from God. If it weren’t for this church, I would not be on this path today. I want to express my deepest appreciation and give thanks to God Almighty for the mercy and compassion He has shown me and for the many blessings He has given. One of the greatest blessings is having the honor of marrying my best friend and the love of my life, Jonathan! I also want to thank Gwen Shamblin Lara for the foundation she laid for this church, and Elizabeth Hannah Kaufmann for continuing this truth with such strength and sacrifice. I am incredibly grateful for her wisdom, the love she has shown me, and the example she lives out.

I am in awe of the life God has given us. I feel so blessed and undeserving to marry Jonathan, the most handsome, righteous, steadfast, passionate, humble, fun, kind, caring, gentle, selfless, servant-hearted, and loving man God could have placed in my life. I am so excited to begin our life together, knowing we will be unified and stronger together than apart. - Abby

My family moved to Tennessee in 2003 shortly after joining the church. Growing up here has been a tremendous honor and blessing. Being surrounded by friends and families living for God was, and still is, an impactful example to me. As I grew up, I saw Gwen Shamblin Lara’s righteous example of how to love God first and have a relationship with him. I longed to learn more from the Bible and desired a genuine personal relationship with God myself. Through different changes in my life, God was clearly getting my attention, calling me to seek Him and do His will 100%. Through putting into practice what we are taught by this church, I have learned how to have a personal relationship with God. Realizing that true joy, selflessness, and love for others come from a personal relationship with God was life changing. Every day, I strive to grow in my relationship with God, and I know I still have so much further to go. I am so incredibly grateful for the abundant love, wisdom, guidance, and encouragement from the community we have here.

I don’t know where to begin in expressing my sincere and deepest appreciation to God for the gift of allowing me and Jonathan to start dating. I’ve known Jonathan for most of my life, though we did not know each other well. His joyful, kind, and righteous nature stood out to me and sparked my desire to get to know him better. Going into our relationship, I prayed that we would make God the center of our relationship and to be able to grow in our relationships with God together. Throughout our relationship, Jonathan made it so easy to bring God into every conversation and be there to help each other. He made sure we prioritized making God the center of our relationship, serving the church, and fellowshipping. I am so blessed to have been surrounded by so much love and joy, along with righteous friends who encouraged me and continually pointed me toward God. Jonathan constantly encourages me and helps me grow closer to God. My love for Jonathan only continues to grow more and more each day. He is constantly attentive to the needs of others and is always quick to give his time to serve the church. He is friends with everyone and makes each person feel truly loved. Jonathan loves his family deeply and is a loyal and encouraging friend, and it has been such a privilege to witness that. Jonathan seeks to follow God’s spirit and has a passion to defend and uphold the truth. He genuinely cares for people, always showing love and bringing joy to others. Jonathan brings joy into every room he walks into and makes everything so much fun! Jonathan spurs me to be a better person and I want to be more like him every day! I am incredibly undeserving of the deep relationship I have been able to grow with Jonathan. He has made every day the best.

I truly believe that trusting in God, putting God first, and making Him the center of our lives has allowed us to be where we are today. I cannot wait to stand beside him—giving back to the church for all that we have been given, prayerfully raising children with a message of love and hope, and growing in our relationships with God together.
