Their Story…

Ben Whiddon:

Where do I begin? I was raised in an amazing family. I am one of nine siblings, all of whom mean so much to me. My parents have a great relationship that I admire. I live in Giles County, TN, and stay busy working on my family’s farm along with my career at Columbia Fire.

I will never deserve life by Katie’s side, but I’m eternally grateful that God has brought us together. Katie’s love and support for me is constant, and I couldn’t imagine life without the beautiful, loving, Godly girl that she is by my side through every chapter to come.!– Ben

Out of high school, I went straight into EMT school to pursue my career as a firefighter. Up to this point, dating hadn’t been an interest of mine…and to be honest, I didn’t want to pursue anyone until I was “ready” financially. Little did I know, that’s not a thing! While in EMT school, I met the most beautiful girl I had ever seen, and I couldn’t help but notice the warm bubbly smile and joyful laugh that constantly filled every room she entered. As I spent more time around her, I noticed the way she would find the most awkward person or the misfit and would make them loved and included; that spoke volumes to me. Her laugh was contagious, and her genuine love and compassion for those around her was undeniable. The semester was coming to a close when we met, but we started texting in the weeks following. Our texts turned into calls, and calls turned into time spent with her that passed far too quickly. The more time I spent with her, the more I fell in love, and it wasn’t long at all before I knew she was my one and only. Katie’s thoughtfulness and selfless attitude touches the lives of so many people. Even while in school and working full time, she always found a way to serve others, whether it be an encouraging text or the most thoughtful and creative gift. She loves her parents and honors them in a day and age where respect for parents is scarce. Her love for God is evident in every aspect of her life, and her devotion convicts me daily. Katie wouldn’t take any credit for these qualities but knows she possesses them only because she put into practice what she has been taught at Remnant Fellowship, seeking God first through a personal relationship with Him. I couldn’t deny the fruit that I saw in Katie’s life, and I decided that I would also join Remnant. The closer we grow together, the more she amazes me. She has always been there to encourage me when times are difficult. Our two years have had testing moments, but our love for each other has only grown deeper and drawn us closer to God.

I will never deserve life by Katie’s side, but I’m eternally grateful that God has brought us together. Katie’s love and support for me is constant, and I couldn’t imagine life without the beautiful, loving, Godly girl that she is by my side through every chapter to come. I can’t wait to marry you, Katie Ann. Forever!

Katie Whitney:

I have had the honor of being a member of Remnant Fellowship Church since 2005. My family is originally from Colorado, but with the technology available, we were able to webcast all the church services. Even though I was young when we joined, I vividly remember the pain and anger that my parents, siblings, and I had in our lives before we found Remnant. My mom and sister joined the Church first, and not only did they both lose weight quickly by learning to transfer all their focus and love to God, but once they started putting into practice everything that is being taught here at Remnant, our home started becoming more peaceful in every way! Not long after, my brother, dad and I also became members, and in 2007, my family moved to Tennessee!

As I have grown older, I have gotten to experience the blessings and the fruit that comes when God is the center of your life…and I have also seen firsthand the trials and consequences that can come when we don’t seek Him first. Putting God first gives my life purpose! There has never been any question in my heart—this is how I want to continue to live and to raise my family.

Looking back, I never really went through a “boy crazy” phase. I never wanted to date someone casually, but rather, as I was raised, I wanted to date with purpose and purity. I knew that God would bring the right person in His timing and that I didn’t need to seek out or try to grab for a relationship. In the spring of 2018, I was finishing up my last semester of school for my career in the medical field. I met many amazing people during that final semester, one of whom was Benjamin. Though Ben was not in my classes, I got to interact with him a few times near the end of the semester, but I merely thought of him as a friendly (yet handsome) acquaintance. It was not until the last day of the semester that I really noticed the qualities Ben possessed. He was such a gentlemen, hard-working, humble, kind to all, oh so very funny, and did I mention, SO handsome! On that day, Ben and I had the opportunity to really talk one on one, and we realized how much we had in common. From that day on, we began talking more and more, and a relationship soon developed!

Ben holds me accountable to my convictions and helps me strive to be better. He truly possesses each of the Fruits of the Spirit talked about in Galatians 5:22-23 and is a strong physical and spiritual leader, leaving me with no fear for our future. I love this man and cannot wait to become his wife!– Katie

I knew there was something different about Ben, and it didn’t take me long to know that he was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. God answered every prayer I could have ever had for a potential spouse when he brought Ben into my life.

Ben and I began talking about marriage a few months into our relationship, knowing that both of us were committed to one another. However, we also knew we needed to trust in God’s timing before we made that step. During our first year of dating, we both finished school and began our careers. I work as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, and Ben is a fireman in Columbia, Tennessee. During our second year of dating, we continued to grow in our personal relationships with God, individually and as a couple, putting into practice the teachings of Remnant Fellowship Church. We had many incredible opportunities to serve together at Church and in our communities through our jobs. We were able to enjoy many happy and blessed occasions and seek out guidance from our families and friends during times of testing. It was a very purposeful and beautiful time that I am so grateful for!

One rainy afternoon, Ben and I were at his farm when his little brother called with news that the cows had gotten out. With the recent storms, I didn’t think anything suspicious. Ben and I rode up to the top of the property where his brother said the fence was down. It just so happened that this location also had the most beautiful view of the farm… I still didn’t think anything of it! As I began looking for cows, I heard Ben say, “Katie, the cows are not out.” As I turned around, he was down on one knee, and he asked me to be his wife! I later found out that he had an elaborate plan to propose a few days later, but after picking up the ring that morning, he just couldn’t wait any longer.

Ben holds me accountable to my convictions and helps me strive to be better. He is the definition of selfless, always making himself available to anyone in need and never complaining about the time he has given up. He truly possesses each of the Fruits of the Spirit talked about in Galatians 5:22-23 and is a strong physical and spiritual leader, leaving me with no fear for our future. I love this man and cannot wait to become his wife!
