In 2007, my mother introduced me to the Remnant Fellowship Church. We would watch Church via webcast at home and occasionally go to the Johnston family’s home to watch as well since they lived close to our family. My first visit to Nashville was for the Feast of Harvest in 2008. I had a lot of fun and learned so much while I was there! Even at a young age I could tell there was something different about this place. I came back for every Festival that I could after that, which ended up being about twice a year. I became close friends with many of the kids in the Church. In the Summer of 2012, my sister and I visited so that we could attend the Church’s Summer Day Camp for a week. But at the end of the week, my parents saw how much fun we were having and allowed us to stay for the rest of Day Camp, which was an additional three weeks! We came back the next year and stayed for the last four weeks of Day Camp. It was amazing and was such a blessing to us!
Emily is always very optimistic, which is something I need in my life. She is the most kind, loving and caring person I have ever met, so much so that I am still learning from her example daily. She consistently points me up to God and redirects my focus if I am ever feeling down. I can’t wait to spend forever with her! – Jacob
After returning home that summer I was about to start my senior year in high school. I’m not sure what it was, but my father noticed something different in me after I returned that Summer. Whether it was a change in my behavior or just how happy I was from visiting this Church, he decided that he wanted me there in Nashville. So…he offered to help me move to Tennessee and attend college at MTSU (Middle Tennessee State University). This was an amazing blessing, something I deeply desired but never actually considered asking for. Even though I never asked my father, he knew how much I liked it, and that this was the place I needed to be. I applied to MTSU in late 2013 and was accepted just before Christmas. I moved to Brentwood in July of 2014. I’ve lived in Tennessee ever since and don’t plan to leave anytime soon! I want to stay here for the rest of my life and start my family here in this Church. I owe so much to this Church for its great teachings and for the close friends that I have. I am so grateful to the many families who have welcomed my family and encouraged us. I have grown so much closer to God through what I have learned in this place.
In March of 2018, God allowed me to meet Emily. I knew of her before then but had never spoken to her. In early April, I prayed about the opportunity to pursue a Godly relationship with her. During that time, another Saint held a Weigh Down Advanced class at their house, which we both attended and were able to get to know each other more. After spending over a year with Emily, she has brought me so much joy. I even had a childhood friend from Washington visit me for a week in August of 2018, and while he was here, he told me that he had never seen me as happy as I was, and I believe it is only because of knowing Emily through this Church. She is an amazing light for me and anyone around here. Emily is always very optimistic, which is something I need in my life. She is the most kind, loving and caring person I have ever met, so much so that I am still learning from her example daily. She consistently points me up to God and redirects my focus if I am ever feeling down. I can’t wait to spend forever with her! I am constantly thanking God for allowing me to find this place, and for what He has given me because of my obedience. I will continue to live my life for Him. I want to be a Godly man for my family and a Godly husband for my future wife.
My family and I visited the Remnant Fellowship Church for the first time in 2012 for Lacy Day and Jay Dalgarn’s Wedding. The Day family has been close to my family for as long as I can remember. They encouraged us to webcast the Church services while we were at home. Prior to my family visiting, my sister moved to Tennessee for a couple of months to stay with the Day family, and we immediately saw the difference in her when she came back home. At that moment, my parents knew this was a place of change. Shortly after seeing my sister and watching the Church, my father and brother moved up to Tennessee while my mother and I stayed in Texas packing up our house.
Earlier, when we lived in California, I would read my Bible every night and try to understand the Scriptures. When we moved to Texas, I began to question things and eventually I stopped reading my Bible and began to gain weight. I started just eating out of boredom. After joining this Church, I quickly lost over 20 pounds, and after moving up here, I grew so close to my family! My sister moved back in with us and we all got along better than we ever had before. Having lived here for six years now, my life has been changed for the better, my sister is now one of my best friends, my brother is someone I can go to with anything, and I’m so much closer to my parents because of what I’ve been taught here.
Jacob has a very kind and loving heart, and he is always there for me when I need him. He knows when I need encouragement and when I need a friend…and I am so grateful that I will soon be able to call him my husband…I praise God for everything I have today, without Him none of this would have been possible, and I am eternally grateful!!– Emily
I remember back in March of 2018 I was being very tested with wanting to find a boyfriend, so during that time I prayed to God that I would just let that desire go and just let it be in His timing, because he obviously knew what was best for me. After I prayed about letting my desires go, God gave back one-hundred-fold! Jacob began talking to me almost a week after that prayer! We began talking as friends at Church events and other small gatherings. I’m not sure what, but something in him was catching my attention, and I wanted to get to know him more. During school we began Facetiming and helping each other with homework. After that, we started spending more time with each other outside of Church with Saints. Not long after, Jacob talked to my father and we began dating. His Godly personality made me fall deeply in love with him. Jacob has really shown me how much he cares for me; he is constantly showing his love for me even through small things. Jacob has a very kind and loving heart, and he is always there for me when I need him. He knows when I need encouragement and when I need a friend. He is everything that I wish I could be, and I am so grateful that I will soon be able to call him my husband. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it weren’t for this amazing Remnant Fellowship Church! I praise God for everything I have today, without Him none of this would have been possible, and I am eternally grateful!
Our Engagement Story:
The place I selected for my proposal was Jackson Falls, which is about an hour south of Nashville off of the Natchez Trace Parkway. Since our Church’s observation of Pentecost was on Saturday, June 8th, I planned to propose that day before our Church’s Assembly. Seth Jackson offered to help with pictures for the event. He and I decided to go to Jackson Falls that Thursday, June 6th to scope out the location and to figure out the best placement and angles for pictures. I picked up the ring on Wednesday, June 5th, and by that time the weather was not looking good for that weekend. When Thursday night came, it ended up pouring rain, and so Seth and I decided not to go. Even though the weather forecast was for storms that Friday, it was fairly clear throughout most of the day. So I asked Seth if he would be willing to get up early on Saturday to check out the place. I got up at 5:00am Saturday morning, and at that time the forecast was for rain starting at about 11:00am, and so I picked up Seth at 6:00am and we went to the Jackson Falls. I gave him the ring, and we decided that he would come back before we arrived and hide it behind a rock. After we finished setting up the spot, I went to pick up Emily. By that time, the rain start time had been pushed back until about 2:00pm, and so God literally cleared the storms for this! What a blessing! Emily and I had been meaning to get pictures together at Church for some time, but we had simply forgotten about it at all previous Church events. Since it was going to rain that night, I offered that we should get ready for Pentecost early and take pictures before the rain came…and maybe stop for food before we headed to Church. This way we would both be wearing nicer clothing for the engagement. So…we drove down Natchez Trace and I told her that we would go to multiple places and go to Franklin for a late lunch just to make sure that we would have enough time. Seth and Emma Colwell left before we did and they hid in some bushes above where we would be standing. Emily and I got to the Falls at about 10:30am and I walked her over to where the ring was hidden. The rest was captured on video and will be one of the greatest memories we will have for the rest of our lives!
