Their Story...

Justin Fischer

I am extremely fortunate and grateful for what I’ve been taught since the age of five, after my mom took Weigh Down classes and then joined the church when we lived in Ohio.  Being a part of Remnant Fellowship has changed the lives of everyone in our family, including my own—even though I was being taught from such a young age.  Growing up in public school and in other worldly settings, I had to confront my own tests, trials and temptations … and I had to make my choice about putting God first in my own life.  Once I did, I lost 30 pounds and found a peace in my heart that comes from being able to get answered prayers every day!  I am so grateful to understand that God established a line of authority—whether it’s my parents at home or my boss at work, life is so much more blessed when we are looking for every opportunity to make sure the needs above us are met.  I am so thankful to be part of Remnant Fellowship Church and can testify to the many blessings that come when we put God and others ahead of ourselves!

The Proposal

Lily and I have known each other since we were very young—our families used to fellowship together when she lived in Michigan and I lived in Ohio.  Our moms have been very good friends for many years.  I did not really get to know Lily, though, until much later.  I started getting to know Lily in 2016, and what has been neat from the beginning is that our relationship is based on a mutual desire to make sure God is first in everything we do.  The teaching we we’ve learned over the years at Remnant Fellowship has taught us how to grow closer to God and to each other, knowing that our purpose individually and together is to grow His Kingdom and promote His glory!  I can truly say it feels like Lily and I have known each other for many years, and I knew very quickly that I was going to spend the rest of my life with her.  Once God magnified that desire in my heart, I could not wait to ask her to marry me!  God blessed the choosing of the ring … the ideas for how to propose … and He gave the most beautiful spring weather at Center Hill Lake in Tennessee!  My family and I kept the secret for several weeks, and on March 18 I walked Lily down to the lake and asked her to spend the rest of her life with me.  She said yes!  We then walked back up to the house to find all our family and closest friends waiting to celebrate with us!  It couldn’t have been more perfect!  God is awesome, and I am so excited to make sure that our marriage glorifies Him no matter what the circumstance—better or worse—as the years go by!

Lily Peters:

In 1997 my sweet mother was introduced to Weigh Down Workshop when she took her first class. Later, in 2004 she found Weigh Down again and attended Desert Oasis where she discovered Remnant Fellowship Church. The pure love and joy for God first was evident in the conversations and the lives of the leadership and members there. Her life was completely changed from that point forward and joined the Church a little while later. My brother, Robert Peters, and I immediately could see the amazing changes happening in her life as she became more soft-spoken and constantly showed us how to get down and pray and trust God in every situation. We have been members ever since.

I cannot believe that I have had the opportunity to spend the last 13 years in a place that has completely changed my life from such a young age to now. Growing up in the center of the youth group at Remnant Fellowship, I have gained the most joyful and blessed relationships that will last a lifetime. I have friends whose goal is to love and devote their lives to doing the will of God. The blessings and fruit that have been produced from putting this into practice, is a peaceful home with two parents who constantly look to lead and direct us, lasting friendships, and the beautiful opportunity to marry the righteous man of my dreams, Justin. I am so thankful for this teaching of how to get answered prayers and blessings by having a personal relationship with God.

"The hope that Justin and I have for this marriage is unbelievable as we have multiple examples to look up to and sweet parents who faithfully walk with us in every step of our relationship."- Lily

The hope that Justin and I have for this marriage is unbelievable as we have multiple examples to look up to and sweet parents who faithfully walk with us in every step of our relationship. The future is so sweet when the only goal is to please God!! And I am so thankful for Mrs. Gwen Shamblin who has walked out a life of love in every situation and continually shares the blessings of her own relationship with God. Lastly, all glory and thanks go to God for what he does in our lives. I pray that Justin and I will be stronger together to glorify him in our ways and actions then apart.

"Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does" – Psalms 33:2-4

The Proposal

Looking back I am in awe at one of the most incredible and blessed days of my life. God created the most beautiful March morning with the sun shining over the lake. The sweet Fischer family invited me to spend the day with them at the Langston’s cabin on Center Hill Lake for fellowship and fun after service. We left early enough in the morning so that we could all watch the webcast at the cabin and see the sunrise over the lake. Proverbs 31, the wife of noble character, was the topic of the lesson that morning. I particularly noted the opportunity a wife has to bring joy and love to her family as she finds the needs and serves God with her life. I will never forget that message and thinking of the amazing opportunity it would be to be a wife and the excitement of one day being married. Little did I know what was about to happen. After service Justin asked if I would walk down to the lake with him. It was absolutely stunning and he shared stories of times he had been there and the sweet blessing of our relationship. At that moment, he got down on one knee and asked if I would spend the rest of my life with him! Of course I said yes!! Then on our way back up to the house I found my friends and family waiting to share the sweet moment with us and celebrate all God has done.
